Hi Phil,
Is your new check valve hung level in a "normally closed"
position with the hinge at the top requiring the exhaust to open it?

Dear List,
I finally finished my exhaust system upgrade on my
Yanmar 3GM30 from 1 5/8" to 2." I replaced the check valve downstream
from the water lift muffler. The flapper in the old valve was lying at
the bottom of the valve unattached to anything. I like the more relaxed
sound of my exhaust now.
However, the new 2" check valve clanks when the engine
is running. I suspect that the bronze flapper is banging against the
upper surface of the check valve rather than the surface that it closes
against. I suppose that I could put a drop of sealant on the downside
surface of the flapper to deaden the noise. Has anyone else encounter
this annoying clanking? How did you solve it?
