[C38] 3M 5300 or Silicon? Or???

5200 is both a caulk and an adhesive. We are caulking the chain plate
opening rather than securing it to the deck. I would use 4200 or even
better, boat caulk for this location even though it means I have to
attend to it more often. I like Steve's idea of opening up the pinching
side. We probably already have some rot in there as it is where the
seal routinely fails and it would be good to get in there and clean out
the "cavity" much like preventative dentistry!

I dont remember if the recommendation was for 1/4 or 1/2 inch. If your boat is like mine, one side is fine and the other tight. Next time around Im going to dremmel out the gap. Maybe then I can stop using silicone topside to stop the leaking on newly rebed chain plates.
