[C38] Cutlass Bearing Strut Faring

Sorry for the spelling, I guess my fingers are too big for an ipod!

You will have to check if all that filling made to your boat wasn't with the
purpose or reinforcing the strut due to some flex or vibration. Chech out
the technical drawing from catalina on the C38 web. You'll see how it goes.
The fiberglass were the strut meets the hull on a C38 is sometimes
structural, because the strut was embedded on the fiberglass on early models
but after seven years on the list I haven't heard of anyone with this setup,
but on the majority this is just cosmetic filling compoud. The strut goes
through bolted, and you'll be able to see the nuts after of the water
heater. The strut base goes about five inches inside a dent on the hull,
and the all of this is just covered with filling compound. I took mine out
of Estancia (1982) about seven years ago, after the prop grabbed a line and
bent the strut..... I had to straighten it back, reinstalled it and filled
again the big dent. I did it myself, and had no further problems.....
Your problem is nothing that a good grinder can't take care of!!!!

Hope this helps.
