[C38] Knot meter location

Mine is at the aft end of the vee birth but even with frequent cleaning, it
is not accurate and I depend more on the GPS that is also fed into my ST60
gage which is mounted in a pod on the pedestal along with my depth, wind and
autopilot instruments.

I wouldn't worry about it, Steve- as long as you are leading the pack! A
GPS reading is more accurate anyway. You will calibrate the knot meter over
a measured mile to correct for hydro effects. My knot meter is located half
way between the water tank and the bulkhead, with the inspection doors, at
the aft end of the vee birth. It is also off the centerline to the right a
couple of inches. I've never been able to detect any speed difference
between a star'd or port tack.

Does anyone have any knowledge on the location of the knot meter on the
centerline? Peregrine is in the yard having mushroom mounts removed and
replaced with flush mounts. I instructed in writing to the yard along with
a photo to place the knot meter on centerline 33% of the distance from the
keel to the waterline entry point. They have placed it 1' in front of the
keel and stated that is the perfect location and any further forward it will
be subject to disturbance from the bow wave. (yes they went ahead without
contacting me first) We are going to talk about it tomorrow morning and Im
hoping someone has some definitive information I can use. Grrrr Thanks
