[C38] Are diesel engines significantly more fuel efficient than gas?

I "changed the subject." I was simply curious about which type of engine is
typically more fuel efficient: diesel vs. gasoline (which is why I changed
the subject line to reflect it).

However, I did not ask the question comparing the two fuel types.

It's a sailboat. If you're noticing the differnce between gasoline and
diesel, you're not doing it right!
