Subject: [C38] Garhauer Vang advice

I don't know if many folks in our community are aware, but we have had
major floods in the east and especially on Lake Champlain. Lake levels
peaked at about ten feet above normal and 3.5 feet above flood.
Thousands of homes damaged or lost both in the U.S. and Canada. My
marina had 1.5 feet of water in the store and dining area! I had to get
an extra quart of bottom paint and it was pretty surreal walking along
shelves in a foot and a half of water! The lake only subsided below
flood stage last week.
This has led to in incredibly late beginning for most of us up here. I
usually have at least 40-50 days on the water by now and this year I
have Five Hours. Half of the boats in my yacht club have not been
launched because all of the marinas were under water. Several of the
marinas will not be open for the Fourth of July weekend because of
damage and there is real fear some of them will not be able to
financially make it (given the amount of damage and loss, most of the
sailors are not complaining).
So, Anders has just flown in from San Francisco and we are off for a
week or so on the boat! Two jobs are installing the Garhauer Vang and
completely rebuilding the website (more on that in another email).
Problem is most of the photos I saw of boats with the vang show them
installed at the cabin top/base of the mast. My boat has a large
fitting there already that among other things is where I fasten my
cunningham. I would have to install the vang above it, which is at
least six inches and will remarkably affect the angle...
What have other folks done?

Thanks,
Chuck Finn
