Hello Max,
I still have the fixed 2-blade prop that I removed to install the Martec.
I will check it tomorrow and let you know what the exact measurements are.
If all is well maybe I could deliver it. We will be in Puerto Caldera, October 21.
I am sure I can get it through security ..... heheheheh.....

Hey Chuck, I requested a quote from Campbell last week, and they send it for a 17" prop... I sent back an email, telling them that 16" is the max diameter that we can use on a fixed blade prop, so hopefully, I will have a new quote by Monday... Also got a quote for a michigan. Minneys don't have anything that I could use, so, I'm running short of options, but I'll keep looking for a while...Regards, max

Max,
Several of us have the Campbell Sailer prop from West by North.
They cost about $500 and you can get whatever size/pitch you want,
working with their designer. When I bought the Mighty Quinn, it
came with a two blade michigan and a martec folding prop. I found
the folding prop wasn't much good for anything but meeting racing
requirements. And, the two blade prop left me thinking the 5424 was
seriously under-powered for my boat.... It is hard to describe how
much difference the Sailer prop made. Lots more power at lower
rpms. Much less prop walk. Markedly less engine noise and
vibration. And, less drag than the two blade.
As to the racing question. While PHRF rating systems differ by
club, many do tax your for the folding prop. My club assesses 6
seconds for a folding prop.
And finally, because everyone in my club knows I am a diver. I
routinely get calls from friends to "take a look at" their keel,
prop, rudder, paddle wheel. Usually, all this entails is to put
down my wine glass and dive over the side, but a couple times of
late it has been to try to release folded props. In both instances
all I had to do was work them back and forth and they released, but
a lot of the folks I sail with are not capable of doing this
themselves. Not a good thing when you are at some anchorage and
have to power home. I really like reliability!

Hey Steve,
I just checked Bacon sails and there's nothing similar to
what I'm looking for.. I'm going to give them a call tomorrow,
as well as Minney's. Dan is right, and they might have something
that is not listed on the web. Your two blade prop won't work
for me, because is too small for the new engine, so, I just have
to keep looking around!

Max

Max, we got our martech for Transpac from Bacon Sails $100
and in very good condition. We also have a three bladed
max prop that is fantastic, pricey but really nice on all
points. Have the original 15X13 two blade fixed prop as
well if your interested. IF you need a really big prop
talk to Larry he was quite helpful in having a diver
install one for us in the 26" range prior to
Transpac,,,,,thanks again Larry! LOL.

Hello Max,
Check with Minneys Yacht surplus.
http://www.minneysyachtsurplus.com/
Their website does not show what they actually have in
their inventory.
The last time I was in there they had 4 Martec
Elipticals that would fit our boats and dozens of
other props. I don't know what they have that might
fit but they are really good at finding what you need
and shipping it at a reasonable cost. I have a Martec
eliptical and it performs better than the fixed
2-blade that it replaced.

Hi everyvody,
I was checking my prop options with Michigan
props. Since the fixed blade max diameter allowed on
our boats is 16", according to the new engine and
tranmission ratio, I'll have to use a 3 blade 16x18
prop. I wanted a 2 blade, but was told that with this
numbers, I'll be a very weird prop....
Next year, after I'll recover from all the
unexpected expenses, I'm planning to get a Kiwi prop,
but in the meantime, I need prop shop recommendations,
so I can try to get a used prop in this size...
Any shop recommendations with big prop
inventory????

Max Soto
