[C38] Transmission Linkage

My transmission lever would not shift out of reverse. 



I found the problem but the answer  is ? 



Problem is the sheet metal plate that hooks unto transmission has 2 bolts that hook plate to transmission.  One bolt came out so now the plate rotates around the persisting bolt  instead of shifting.  I found the bolt under transmission but it won't  screw in.  The bolt's threads are fine....maybe the threads on transmission are stripped. 



Any thoughts?
