[C38] Drip less stuff

hey Larry,

I bought a PYI last year because I'm going to install my generator behind
the engine (longest project ever!), so I needed a "no maintenance at all"
style of packing gland, but wasn't able to install it due to some corrosion
on my prop shaft. I was risking a leak and damage to the o rings during
installation. So, in a couple of months I'll replace the shaft and install
it. The new design has a fitting that connects to a small hose that makes
it self burping. The old style is no longer available, but It works great
as long as you remember to burp it every time the boat goes back to the
water or a diver cleans the hull.
This has been installed in several 38's. I think that Peter Lagan has one
of those installed on Gusto.

I was also checking for the rudder seal, but is not available for the
rudder post diameter.  The compressed length of the prop shaft seal is
6.5". Now imagine the length of a 2.89" seal......The space available
between the gland and the radial wheel (between 3" - 3.5") is  not
enough...
The attached pic is the old PYI installed on a 1984 C38 (Moquisha) with the
5424 engine. Is pretty tight, but your engine is a lot smaller than the old
one, so you'll have no problems there..
I'll send some pics as soon I install mine.. Hope it won't become another
of my year long projects!
