[C38] mast winch

In that case I would suggest either going with Tom's "lashing" idea (below
the mast mounted winches/pads) or combining lashing it to the mast with a
pad eye or something bolted through the deck.

You might consider making a harness out of high-tech line (something really
tough) that fits around the mast (a loop or something around the mast
mounted winches to hold it in place vertically) that you can simply snap
shackle on and off.  This would be quick to attach/detach, hold it securely
in place, not add holes to your mast...and be relatively easy to stow
between uses.
