That doesn't seem so hot as to worry, but I rarely ran the motor on
SuperStar over 2400rpm.

That was the Capri 37 which was a regular production boat sold by
Catalina. Very different boat - a light skimming dish - very tender - not
too many sold. The Catalina 37s are all still at LBYC. Joe

The hull lines looks totally different. Check this out:

What I don't get is that only eleven were supposed to being built, and owned
by LBYC, but I have seen that one, and the one on the link below for sale
during the last few years far away from CA. Who knows how many more were
built...

Mark,
Thanks - the cost of making a new mold for the hull to build a dozen
boats is the reason I think they used our hull mold and put on a different
deck. No interior is to save weight - they are daysailors. Joe

Joe,

The hulls are similar and of about the same length. The cockpit is
completely open to the waterline in the back, and yes, no interior. I'll
try and stop by the yacht club and snap a few pictures for the group. I do
believe our boats were the inspiration for them, as Butler donated them
right after our boats for the cup.

D r,

Can I jump in? Someone told me the Catalina 37 used in the Congressional
Cup has our hull and a different deck with no interior. Does anyone have
anything on this? I would love line drawings. Joe

Thanx for all the spreader info, guys. This helps a lot. And to my

excitement my sail guy said he's do a few more jobs for me, so looks

like I can put off finding someone else for another season.

But....Someone mentioned rig tuning.... Any tips? I've never done it

and I'm sure it's been quite sometime since the last time it was done.

I recently installed a hydraulic backstay adjuster. (Replaced the one

that it came with) And it seems to do well... but I've noticed that my

starboard aft shroud is getting loose. It certainly has more play that

the portside one....And the boat seems to point better on a port tack.

I don't have a guage or anything, so is there really any way (other

than just eyeballing the straightness of the mast and making sure they

stays and shrouds feel tight and equal) that I can "tune" the rig?

Thanx,

Max, the Gemini headfoil system was a Hood product back in the late

70's-early 80's; it used a 1/8th-inch bolt rope rather than a standard

1/4th-inch. Mark, you are looking at replacing the luff tape, I had to do

it on 7 sails when I change the headfoil on a previous boat.

Mark,

It's likely that your spreader tips have slid down on the rigging wire.

One of mine was installed backwards and I flipped it around to match the

other. Your rigging may need tuning? They should be quite taut. I had to

use a block and hammer to tap the end of the spreader level again after I

flipped it over.

Hey C38ers...

One for the whole group:

My first row / lower spreaders are angled funny. They are both

pointing down to the deck enough to be noticeably odd-looking. When I

got the boat the port side spreader was angled down slightly, but the

starboard was fine, now they both seem to have settled at a downward

angle. Not horrible, but obviously not right.

So.. how to I fix that? And, is there a standard angle at which they

should be set?

One for the Maryland guys:

I need a recommendation for a loft to repair and re cut my Genoa and a

jib. My long-time loft has basically gone out of business, and I am

looking for a new one. I have a radial cut North Sail 150% that needs

cleaning, repair and needs to be re cut (it's too big up top. can't

sheet it in enough to get close angle without it resting quite tightly

on the top spreader.) I also have a 110% that needs a sacrificial

furler piece sewn on.

I was spoiled with my old loft... his prices were unheard of. Now I'm

scared to shop around. Anybody out there?

Thanx,

Mark O'
