[C38] 30 Amp Power Deck Connection

Hey all, I have what appears to be a Hubble deck power connection that has
gone south.  I noticed that there is a internal rebuild part available, has
anyone done this?  It's about half the cost of a whole new unit.

That's a little odd, we have two jib halyards which lead to the front of the
mast, a port and starboard spinnaker halyard which are connected to the
bales on the crane at the top of the mast.  We have had fouling problems
with spinnaker halyards especially when trying to un furl the jib after a
jibed with the spinnaker, the halyards do tend to get caught up if you are
not careful when un furling.  Typically we deploy the spinnaker behind the
jib and then furl, when taking down the spinnaker we un furl and drop it
behind the jib, hence the problem if we have jibed.

Thanks All for the comments.  

We have two jib haylards of which we use the port halyard for the roller
furling top drum.  We use the starboard spinnaker halyard which I believe is
run  through a block above the jib sheave and then led into the mast with a
chrome plated fair lead thingy.  We did not have a ball on spinnaker halyard
and that may have been the main issue if the splice got caught too tightly
in the block.  I plan to add a ball to the halyard, go aloft for a look
around and see if there are other improvements to be made.  I would like to
add a port side external spin halyard soon as I would like to have the
ability to peel if needed, but I need to have a new mast collar constructed
with additional mounting points for another block.  Maybe a good winter
project.

David.  I’m interested in the  North ¾ and maybe some of the headsails.  I
could come up from San Diego for pick up.  If you could contact me of the
list at jsorensen at novarx.com we could discuss logistics.

Hi Jay,

I agree with Bill, if you are using a jib halyard, that would likely be a
problem.   

For light sheets, we have just used some small line (3/16" or 1/4"), and
tied a bowline with a very long loop (about 4 feet), so that you can tie it
on the spinnaker without choking it in before taking the heavy sheet off.
You will need to remember to restore the heavy sheet before gybing.  

I have all of the racing spinnakers off of SuperStar for sale, including:
Elliot Pattison .6 (1/2oz) Spinnaker, symmetrical, with Superman logo, fair
condition.  New ~$2,900, asking $450 
Elliot Pattison? 3/4oz Spinnaker, symmetrical, with Superman logo, fair
condition. New ~ $2,800, asking $400 
North 3/4oz Spinnaker, symmetrical, older style cut, very good condition.
Asking $750 
1.5oz Spinnaker, symmetrical, fair to good condition.   Asking $400 

These are all in bags (turtles), and shipping costs would be added to the
total price.    Other sails I have for sail include several headsails,
including two carbon fiber jibs, one of which has seen very little use, a
jibtop reacher and a fair to good condition mainsail.    I also have a bunch
of other C38 equipment and parts (the family who purchased SuperStar are not
racers).   I will try to post a list sometime soon...

sheets in light air have a preference for light weight shackles.  The
plastic Lewmar ones we use on the Serendipity tend to open up under load and
I thought one of you may have a preferable option??  Or maybe we’ll just tie
on light line!
