By now, you should have received your Mainsheet magazine with the
excellent article by our Technical Editor, Steve Smolinske. I had a
chance to read the article prior to publication and was very interested
in his chainplate repair. My only problem (one I suspect many of us
share) is I don't have access to a fantastic machine shop and making
those plates would be a real challenge to say the least!!!!
I shared my concern with Steve and he came back with the offer (below)
to make a set for our members at cost! Below are his words:
Chuck
After talking with you the other day I ran the numbers for the chain
plates and came up with a kit price that includes 4 lowers and 2
uppers. They are made form SS316, the finish is not polished like the
existing plates but more of a matte finish similar to the chain plates
themselves. I cant do this on a one by one basis it needs to be all six
or nothing, the reason is that when programming the tool passes and
minimizing material waste (as well as me having inventory of extra
plates or material scraps) we are able to make 3 full sets in one
pass. The total for all six is $100 and includes postage.
I'll offer this up to the group on a one time offer, there is just no
way I can tie up equipment on a onsie twosie type of basis so if anyone
interested emails me by 12/15 I should be able to ship them out by 01/30.
Steve

He already has one order (mine)! I am sick and tired of chasing
chainplate leaks! Not that this is a cure-all, but it sure as heck will
improve things! I am going to do the port side this Spring when I
replace the forward bulkhead (it was bad when I purchased Mighty Quinn
and has only gotten worse).
So, let Steve know by 12/15, because as he says.... THIS IS A ONE TIME
OFFER!
