Mark sounds similar to what we are doing, except the winches are farther
back mounted about mid cabin, I'd love to see your pictures.

Subject: Re: [C38] Solid Vang / Main Halyard Question

Mark,
I have a Hall solid vang. I installed it when I commisssioned the
boat (I did it myself with help) in 1991 with no problems. It contains a
spring so the last thing we do after sailing is to ease off the main
sheet, vang and cunningham andd lift the end of the boom as high as
possible to take the tension of the spring.

You can easily use the cabin top winch to handle the main sheet and
halyard. Install two rope clutches in front of the winch. Align them
carefuly so there is a fair lead from the turning block at the mast to
the clutch. On Macavity, we are set up for racing and have 2 spin
halyards, two genoa halyards and the main halyard. We have two Lewmark
40 self tailing halyard winches mounted on the deck near the halyards.
We had the mast collar rebuilt at the time of launching so have tangs
for 12 bloks. We use large Harken blocks on the tangs to route the
halyards to the bank of rope cluthces. We have the genoa halyards on the
port side of the mast and the spin & main on the starboard side. I will
see if I have any pix in the camera . If not, I will be at the boat next
weekend and will shoot some. On the ropeclutch - get the best -
Spinlock. Do not get Garmar rope clutches. Do not get Garmar rope
clutches. We put them side by side with the Spinlock and immediately
made cushes out of the Garmar by throwing them overboard. Joe

	Hey all... Happy holidays.

Curious... I just installed a stack-pack, and now I'm looking to
ditch
my topping lift in prep for eventually running my main halyard
back to
the cockpit... So I have 2 questions.

	1. Does any one have a solid vang?.. or specifically a
BoomKicker?
http://www.boomkicker.com/ Boomkicker looks to be the most cost
effective and easily installed solution to a solid-vang-type
system.
	Anyone out there have one?

	2. Running main halyard back to the cockpit... If I do so, and
use my
existing main sheet winch on the house as the halyard winch. How
do I
control the main sheet while I'm hoisting? Could i simply
install a
cam cleat to hold the main sheet steady while I'm hoisting?

	Thanx,
