[C38] Another Toe Rail question

Hello Group,

I cannot find the pieces of toe rail I removed from my bow and I can't find
any pictures of my bow either showing the toe rail modification so my only
documentation is from memory.

The procedure is very easy and quick but care is needed to cut only as much
as you want and afterwards smooth all edges before painting. I decided
where I wanted my new cleats and removed about 6" of toe rail 3 and 9
O'clock abeam from those places. You can remove less material at first to
keep the new "fairlead" or chock as small as possible and easily remove
more later if you decide you need more clearance.

I mounted my cleats parallel to the toe rails and actually touching the
horizontal flange of the toe rails to provide the least loss of bow walking
area so the hazard of deck obstruction would be minimal. Make the toe rail
modifications before you mount the cleats so you can file or sand the
flange before you paint the toe rail. By carefully filing the flange so it
makes it a smooth fairlead.

The only real threat with this project is cutting into the flange when you
make the cuts. That is why I allowed about 1/16" of material left on the
flange to be removed by file or sander after the initial cuts. Once
finished, it will look like the boat came from the factory with this toe
rail design.

me has been a pain in the butt because I anchor a lot.I thread my tie up
lines through a piece of hose slightly larger than the size of my tie up
lines and let the hose chafe on the toe rail. So far they have lasted two
years with little sign of wear.

bow cleat that came with the boat), but 8" probably would work. Should be
interesting to see what others think. I've been using carabiners to attach
spring lines to the rail, but having two bow cleats would be really useful,
and would also make room for a bow roller for an anchor.

four bolt aluminum cleats too much?? Also, I was thinking about a cleat
amidships, but not sure if I should just get a cleat for the genoa
tracks.... What Tom did sounds like a good option if chocks are required...
Should be easy to cut the toe rail... If a real chock is required, I'll cut
the toe rail, and will look for a chock with bolts 4" c/c.
