Hi all,
This is my first response so I thought I would "give" before asking questions for a "get."

I have an 83 Cat 38' that I bought in Sept of 2017. We are on the Patapsco River off the Chesapeake Bay.

The boat came with hard wired LEDs in all the right places accept for the head, where the light is insufficient, at least according to my wife...
We have supplemented with some battery operated LEDs but they do not provide the same level of light and of course the batteries don't last that long with the changes in temperature that invariable occur. I would recommend the hard wired lights with accessible switches that you can easily feel in the dark. My boat has the slim bar type that take up minimal space and you can barely see if the light is not on. I think it was a good install by the prior owner.

My 2 cents....

Rick

Hello All
I would like to replace every light fixture in the boat. They are the
original ones and many of the shades are melted and yellow. There are many
many choices out there but I was wondering what your recommendations are.
Thanks!

I have been eclectic in replacing lights. Toward the bow, it is so hard
to replace old wires --- and new LED fixtures are so good and so cheap,
that I have gone with battery operated lights; non-marine are just as
good and much less expensive than "marine." The previous owner put in
some newer fixtures in which I have replaced the bulbs with LEDs. The
overhead fixtures in the Salon can be expensive, but other knockoffs are
pretty cheap and take LEDs. Discrete Charm is a 1980 C38, an old boat,
and it is what it is.
