Richard: Water in the bilge has had several sources on Discreet Charm,
C38#50, San Francisco Bay .
1. Rain comes in through the mast, exiting at the base of the mast through
a hole drilled there. Fresh water in bilge.
I rigged a hose that goes into a small bucket in the bilge, which I can
remove and empty into the sink.
2. The stuffing box leaks. Salt water in the bilge.
Replace the the packing. Use teflon packing. This is easy.
3. The rudder post. Salt water in the bilge
Replace the the packing around the rudder shaft. Use teflon packing.
This is difficult but doable.
4. The 40 year old hose from the water tank to the sink had a leak. Took me
a while to find this. The water in the bilge was fresh.
