[C38] Propane tank location

Dulcinea had a pressurized alcohol stove which I immediately removed upon purchase.  The previous owner hadn't used it in over 10 years as she sat essentially as a floating hotel room for him and his wife at South Beach Harbor Marina SF.  They used a two burner electric stove as she was always plugged into shorepower.

I added a Magma rail mounted propane kettle grill, made a replacement gimbaling cabinet for the galley and replaced the stove with a used Origo 3000 two burner alcohol cooktop I found at Blue Pelican marine consignment in Alameda, CA, balanced the gimbal cabinet with a microwave and convection toaster oven as I was living on it for the first 3 years of restoration.  I kept the two burner electric and used it mostly since I too was dockside and plugged in.  The Origo 3000 is basically two giant sterno cans and takes a bit of getting used to the moist cooler heat, but it works just fine. I haven't taken the old girl on long offshore passages, just up to Drake Bay and week long SF bay and Delta hookings/moorings.  If I were to finally take the "big left" out the Golden Gate, I would get rid of the electric appliances and utilize the gimbal cabinet for additional galley storage and consider getting a rail-mounted GoSun Solar oven.

Well, it seems we don’t have that many options for our boats. I’m waiting for some pics of a locker installed on the sail locker.. if it doesn’t work for me, I think I’ll make a locker for the stern rail that won’t get in the way with the davits I’m planning to install on a near future. Thanks for the comments.

Max, Dashaway’s are on the stern rail as well. These were 2 10 pound steel tanks that I painted with white epoxy. People generally didn’t even notice them. I couldn’t find another place on the boat that I thought would be safe and work. Good luck Whatever you decide.

Hi Max.
Mine is in (it's own locker) in the cockpit quarter locker. It's a compromise, wherever you put it, it takes space ...

Max, I mounted my 10 lb tank on the stern rail also.  I couldn't find a location that was below the seat height and was high enough for the bottom of the compartment to "drain" out above the water line.  The only place I have seen that it would work was on centerline behind the wheel with a modified (raised) lid to the aft seat behind the wheel.  I think there was a C38 on Puget Sound that came up with this solution.

Where do you guys installed the propane tank?
I currently have it on the stern rail, but will like to clean the sterns a bit. Not sure if a locker fits in our boats.
