Charles,
Glad to hear you're still cruisin' along. I take it you're headed for the
Apostles? You should back-track just a little and do the North Channel; it
is a place you don't want to miss. Out of curiosity, how long did it take to
make it from Lake Erie to Lake Huron?
Sincerely,
Russ Duff

I just installed the Furuno 1715 radar with 20 meters of cable on the Mighty
Quinn. The unit comes with a 10 meter cable, but it is not possible to
mount the screen near our helm with that length. I was first told I could
not return the 10 meter cable in exchange for a 20, so I explored splicing
two 10s. The engineers at Furuno were very clear this was not an option as
tolerances are pretty limited. In fact, the 20 meter cable is the longest
that can be used on this unit due to loss.
A personal update. The Mighty Quinn is currently at Sault Ste. Marie,
Michigan waiting for a crew member to join before we sail the really big
lake (Superior). Weather has been challenging thru Lakes Ontario, Erie and
Huron with fog you could cut and rain and wind! The weather fronts have
been going thru almost daily... and it has been cold! An apology goes to
Russ Duff for not stopping by in the Detroit River, but we were running late
and a southern wind helped us beat the strong currents all the way to Huron.
Two more days and it will be a month since I left Albany, NY. Lots more
than a thousand miles under the keel already and at least another 600-700 to
go! I am longing for summer to finally happen!

Hi,
Are all tranducers made by Airmar?? I broke the small handle on my Signet
speed tranducer a couple of years ago. Could it be made by Airmar also?
It works, but getting it out everytime I use it has become a pain in

The transducers are made by Airmar. I also bought a replacement on ebay.
Sorry, but I can't give you an answer on splicing, but that sure would be a
lot easier than having to run the new cable.

OK, now here is a new one, I'm just full of questions. We have Raymarine
ST-60 Instruments on board with a Edison binnacle, three instruments one of
which is the knot meter and sea temperature and timers. Out knot transducer
(I think this is the right term, it's the thing that turns and has a magnet
in it I think LOL) was getting fouled as they do with critters growing in
it.
I did a stupid thing and soaked it in Lime Away thinking that would get rid
of those pesky critters growing inside, well not only did it clean the
transducer it ate up part of the transducer and now of course is doesn't
work. Where can I find a replacement?
Raymarine apparently doesn't support it any longer and IF I can find a
replacement do I have to run the wire all the way back to the binnacle or
can I do a splice?
This stuff never ends, does it? LOL Ahhh, the joys of owning a 1981
Catalina 38 but I love her.
