I went through 16 filters coming up the coast from San Diego because the 
  boat was not being used for about 10 years.  But in the last two years 
of sailing in the San Francisco Delta I have not needed to change the 
filter at all.  I think this winter is the time to clean the tank and 
service the entire fuel system.  Thanks for your suggestions on the 
second access port.
