[C38] suggestions sailmakers, new headsail C38

Sinbad sails did our last main. Ulman did the recut on our jib
(purchased at Minney's) and cover. North provided us with a used sail
for our 22, as did Minney's. I can only say that each and every one of
them did what I needed at a fair price. The racers here in Southern CA
appear to love either North or Ulman, and it seems that which ever they
bought their last sail from is the current best.

My main is pretty much a custom job, two reef points, no logo, and flat
cut like a dinghy sail at the foot. A very powerful sail here in
Southern Ca, and with fewer strings too. Sinbad even put in a downhaul
that we don't use (I think he was disappointed).

I would say tell the sailmaker you choose your preferred winds, your
rigging setup, how much heel you can tolerate (our boats need about 17
degrees to get to full waterline benefit) and ask if they have Catalina
38 experience. The more experience your sailmaker has with the class,
the better he understands what works. If on the east coast see if the
sailmaker has one tonner experience. They are closely related to our
boats in performance I think (someone will correct me, I'm sure). The
Jib cut differs if you use the roller furler, and there are technologies
(foam luff's and cut modifications) that can give better reefed
performance.

The racers can advise on cut and penalties vs gains of which I have no
idea.
