In the aviation field we use an adhesive for aluminum fuel tanks and windows (that are plastic for pressurized airplanes that is called 1500. It is a two part mixture and will work for your tank forever. If it can withstand high pressure differentials and High temp differentials and expansion and contraction I think it will work on your boat. They also call it pro seal. Go to your local FBO and Aircraft Maint shop and ask if they will sell you some.

I have a Ronco B114 water tank in the bow of Sundancer. I think they are polyethilene tanks. The plastic vent fitting located at the top is leaking where it joins the tank. Is it possible to fix the leak with something like JB weld? I don't want to pull the tank to get it welded because big job that would be. Any suggestions?

There should be no pressure on the tank filler neck and I would expect Goop or Shoe Goo would do the trick.

If you use Goop, don't use Plumber's Goop because it doesn't harden enough for mechanical strength. I use Carpenter's Goop for just about everything with good results but I don't really know the differences between the different types of Goop other than the soft, weak texture of Plumber's Goop.

Hello Ken,

I have the same tank in Pretty Lady. It split at the aft upper edge due to the bulkhead warping. I called Ronco and spoke to an engineer and he said that there are no adhesives that will bond the poly tank material as it is SO inert. the only way to achieve a real weld is to actually weld it with heat using a plastic rod-feed welding machine. He said that you can try to do it with a high-heat heat gun. Apply the heat till the plastic appears to sweat and hope it re-bonds. I recently found a heat activated PVC adhesive that I plan to try. Anything to avoid cutting the V-berth out to replace the tank which they still list in their catalog. I will try to remember to take pictures of my attempt to fix it and report on the results.
