[C38] Windlass

Ann,
I will get to the boat this weekend and take pictures. I had a very
good(and expensive) stainless man rework the bow roller and put a steel
plate on the deck extending back to the anchor locker. We modified the
door to the anchor locker to include a channel for the chain in
stainless. The windless is a Simpson Lawrence with a rope section as
well. We have never had a bit of problem. We have two switches on deck -
the up on one side and the down on the other. We always have one person
handling the deck anchoring duties while the other tries to make the
boat go where it should. For bringing in a stern anchor which perhaps
you do not want to work around to the bow and general anchoring chores
we have 2 20 long sections of old genoas sheets with a large open
stainless hock tied in the end of each. You insert the hook into the
chain link and run the line to a handy winch and you can take the strain
off the rode to clear aproblem at the winch, or pull the thing in
without using the windless. For pulling it in you crank up to the end of
the line, insert the second line to another winch, take up the strain on
the second line and free up the first one. It really works quite well.
