[C38] Engine Controls

I also don't like the twin controls for engine and throttle/engine kill but
as Les says, the KISS program is good keeping things separate to keep
things more mechanically simple.

If anyone does have the single lever control, there is another way to kill
the engine besides starving the injectors of fuel.

On the Universals 5424 and many other engines, there is a compression
relief lever mounted on the valve cover which will kill the compression to
shut down the engines. This is a good backup in case of throttle cable
failure on the standard dual control systems but it also makes a very good
engine kill alternative on the single engine control systems.

You will have to mount a cable system to reach back to the helm area but
this may be easier than trying to figure out how to kill the fuel delivery
from a single lever system if that is what you are already using. A simple
choke cable type arrangement like cars used to use routed from the engine
panel to the valve cover may work well for the single lever systems for an
engine kill and a quick access backup emergency engine kill for the dual
control systems.
