[C38] bow sprits

Chuck:    Thanks for the invite!  I was hopeing to meet you a couple years 
ago when I saw your boat at the transient dock at Barkers Island, but it 
obviously didn't work out. You were never there......I know all about you 
transient types.....LOL

The math works out to be the potential max load on the sprit to be 1380 lbs 
(+ - 10%) figureing a 40" unsuported extension. I talked with Selden and 
they support that figure. I am going to talk with the local machine shop and 
see what their opinions are as to size of tubeing required. This converation 
is very interesting to me as I have been flying my asym. from a simple 
bridle I made to keep the bow light clear, and attached to the top rail of 
the bow pulpit. I have uesd this arrangment for several years with no 
problem. I know the bow pulpit cannot support those kinds of loads, so why 
hasn't the bow pulpit been damaged?  Keep in mind that we no longer race, so 
when the wind pipes up, the spin goes away.  Maybe I'm just lucky 
(idiot?)........but I'd prefer to think I'm just that damn good looking!
