[C38] Found a good engine here- Is it too big???

Max,

We never push the revs past 2500, but with that we can do anywhere from 4.5
- 6 kn depending on conditions. This is from the survey:

Propulsion: Yanmar inboard auxiliary, Model 3JH4E (Engine Number E00828)
Fuel: Diesel
Horsepower: 29.4 kW (39.4 hp.) @ 3,000 rpm.
General: The auxiliary engine was a Yanmar model 3JH4E diesel. The owner
indicated that it
was installed new in 2004. The engine was started and operated while on sea
trials from
Berkeley to Richmond. It operated satisfactorily and appeared to be in
excellent condition from
external examination. All of the hoses were properly clamped and were in
serviceable
condition from outward appearance. There was an engine hour meter which was
installed in 2004
when the engine was replaced. It showed 183.8 hours.
Transmission: The transmission was a Kanzaki model KM355. It shifted
normally during sea trials.
Foundation & Mounts: The foundations for the auxiliary engine were
substantial and sound.

Our prop is the original I think: fixed, 2 blade right handed, bronze, 15
inches in diameter with a pitch of 16 inches.

Re: transmission coupling, we have no idea whether it's straight or angled,
sorry!!

Great pic Peggy, thanks a lot!

I'm going to try to get a good price for that engine!!

What is your cruising speed with this engine and do you know what kind of
prop you have???

Do you know if the couplin from the transmission comes out straight or is
an angled couplin?????

Regards,

Max

Hi Max,

Attached is the only photo I have right now, it was taken when we were
having the boat surveyed. Rory (he's Engine Maintenance Man) says that to
get to the dipstick you have to take off the top step of the companionway,
but once you do that the dipstick is easy enough to get to. Fuel filter is
right up front.

As for the engine bed, we don't know what it looked like before the
previous owner bought the Yanmar so we can't help you there! You can
probably just compare the photo to Estancia's engine compartment.

Cheers,

P.
