[C38] Attention Northwest and East Coast Fleets!

Our Treasurer Steve Orton proposed (and I agreed) that it is very
important for the long term vitality of our organization to encourage
fleets. Joe Launie during his tenure as Commodore promoted the same
general idea. Below is a copy of what Steve proposed.

"Hi Chuck, How has the summer been treating you? In the NW, our summer
didn't start until August. Phil Gay is organizing a Cat 38 "sail in"
at Port Townsend the weekend of September 24th. We should have between
5 to 7 boats, at least one from Canada. This is strictly a social event
and to see what other skippers have done to their boats. What do you
think about having our treasury give some support to such events? Say:
$25 per boat in attendance to be used for a hosted cocktail party or
what ever. This would be limited to once per year per group and as a
must a write up for the MAINSHEET describing the event. When we used to
have Nationals in So Cal, the Cat 38 Treasury gave $300 to $400 for
trophies, etc. Please give me your thoughts and don't be afraid to say
no, as it might not be fair to remote members you can't attend such an
event.
Cheers, Steve"

So, here's the deal. If you can get three or more boats together, the
Association will contribute $25 per boat toward a social event. We can
afford to do this once a year per fleet. BUT, the folks that get
together have to write up a short piece for the Mainsheet about your
event (look to the other association write ups in Mainsheet to see how
easy this really is). At least a couple of pictures are also required
for posting on our website. Anders will create Fleet locations on our
website to celebrate and promote these activities.

And remember we are organizing an even bigger event next year in San
Francisco around the America's Cup event (isn't that so Anders and our
SF Captains???).

I just wish I could be there for both of these events! I am retiring
next year and one of the big things on my "to do list" is making it to
events like these!
Have Fun,

Chuck Finn
