[C38] Teak

Hello Larry,

Paints are my weakness so I'm interested in what others more experienced
than I am have to say.

That being said, my own limited experience between varnish and poly is that
varnish will work well over teak. I varnished the teak rudder of our Laser
and it looks good.

One other consideration is that poly isn't advised to be used below
waterlines or in excessively wet locations. I don't know if the temporary
wet location would be a problem but it could potentially become a problem
if a wet washcloth was left against the bulkhead or if water channeled
between the counter and bulkhead.

I have a 8' fiberglass dinghy that I had painted a mirror like finish in
white poly. In the Fall I had the boat laying up side down behind my shed
and I covered it with a waterproof tarp to protect it for the Winter from
the elements. When I removed the tarp the following Spring the paint was
blistered everywhere from moisture wicked up from the ground. My beautiful
poly paint job was ruined by the moisture, even though there was no direct
contact with water.
