Steve,
Thanks - On Macavity we (actually the Jesusita fire_) got rid of our
symmetric chutes and pole and went to all Assy. We have had crew
availability problems together with the effects of my re-hab so we really
have not tested the new system. Our set up is: 42 inch retractable Seldon
sprit. 3/4 Assy A-3 which is 180 percent of our 15.6 J. We have not yet
flown our 1/2 oz A-2 which is 180 percent of our new J which is 19 feet.
The 1/2 oz has little shoulders because it is designed to get us moving in
the 3 to 6 knot range when the boat tends to stick.
Crew in Santa Barbara is a real problem so we have two changes to deal
with that. We have Harken two speed racing electric winches for the
primaries and the main sheet.
Latest addition is a Karver top down furling system for the chutes. All
I need is some crew. Anyone want to move to Santa Barbara?

Before Transpac we had polars run for our big white symmetric (its 1.9 of J
about 10% bigger than the class size) and our asymmetric chutes (all about
the same size as the white one). There is very little difference in the
speed between the two. Overall it looks like the asyms do just a smidgen
better than the syms in winds over 12 knots and at angles of 90-130 degrees.
Below 12 the curves practically lay on top of each other, just a very slight
differential advantage for the asyms between 90-110. I think the biggest
advantage of the asym is that it is easier to handle, with a pole you can
carry it deeper, but I think at least we are starting to feel on Peregrine
that the boat does better with deeper angles and a symmetric chute and the
asyms for more reachy stuff. But we still don't feel we have it zeroed in
just a gut feeling.

Here are our polars, unfortunately Joe we don't have them for a Ayso
spinnaker.
