[C38] Staysail

How does one use the staysail track on the Catalina 38? I assume you would rig a wire head stay to hoist the staysail on. Where does that attach to the mast? How do you get it up there? My boat has a block for the spinnaker topping lift outside of the mast, can the topping lift be used as a halyard for the staysail?
